Event Experience: I’ve always heard about this event and there were a few being hosted in neighboring cities such as Newport News has a big event too as well, but since this event was held over a series of few days and longer times I thought it was worth the try.  Getting to the church was easy and wasn’t hard to find since sooo many people were walking there.  Walking up to the giant gazebo tent felt like you were walking into a family reunion.  There was laughter, dancing, children running about, and stories told all around.  The food smelled great and the event halls were filled with seats of hungry visitors.

I went beyond the main entree lines and went inside the smaller church and found a vendor that was selling handmade jewelry.  Beyond the entryway there was a larger area that had a buffet style of dessert with a laundry list of Greek desserts.  Some that looked more appetizing than the one before.  After standing in line for a few minutes you got up to the server who you told what you wanted and they explained/recommended options if you’d like and then you paid a take away bag.  By the exit doors there were smaller vendor stands.

Going beyond this area there was a marketplace and inside there were plenty of Greek items to display your Greek pride from necklaces, jewelry, flags, hats, whistles, wow just a lot of pride and the people in there were happy to serve you.  This made for a nice family style event surely great for all to enjoy and return time and time again.

Here’s what I thought of the event:

1. What was the best part? Watching the dancers and the grand hall where all of the desserts were laid out to pick and choose from!

2. What was the most unique?  The marketplace that was left to feel like you were in the streets shopping for bargains, nice atmosphere!

3. What would you commend to come back and see?  The dancing and try some more food, unfortunately when I went I came just for the dessert!

4. What would you leave out?  The long lines, but it was worth the wait!

5. What should someone know before going?  Be ready to try new desserts, parking is a battle so get ready to walk, and there are a lot of people celebrating!

Definitely Check out these things: the dessert buffet and the marketplace
